Is It True That Coffee Mixed With Milk Can Inhibit the Milk Properties?

Milk contains antioxidants and caffeine, two important components of the human body. Mixing coffee with milk does not materially change the nutrients contained in milk. However, people have different preferences. Some like to drink coffee without milk, while others prefer the rich, creamy taste of a cappuccino. Still others like drip coffee black, and still others prefer to pour a glassful of milk into it.

Caffeine

Caffeine mixed with milk has been found to inhibit the antioxidant properties of milk and could therefore have a negative effect on health. This effect was seen in two different studies that compared the effect of milk and coffee on antioxidant activity. One study found that the addition of milk decreased the antioxidant capacity of the drink, while the other found no effect at all. Although it is difficult to draw firm conclusions, it seems that milk and caffeine are both able to inhibit the activity of the antioxidants in the drink.

Disruption of fat globules

Some studies suggest that coffee mixed with milk can disrupt the antioxidant properties of milk. Milk contains proteins that can form complexes with antioxidants in coffee, reducing their absorption. However, these studies are not conclusive. The amount of milk that is added can also affect the effects. Low levels of milk are unlikely to interfere with the absorption of phenolic antioxidants in coffee.

Adding milk to coffee

The nutrient content of milk is a key factor in determining whether or not it is a good addition to coffee. Milk contains various nutrients that are lacking in coffee, including antioxidants. It also contains calcium and vitamin K, which improve bone health. Some researchers have even suggested that drinking coffee with milk might lower the risk of osteoporosis. There are a number of other benefits to drinking coffee with milk, including increased satiety, increased nutritional value, and enhanced taste. Ultimately, it is your choice!

Effect on milk-fat globules

The protein and lipid content in milk is a key part of the milk fat globule. The lipid membrane surrounding milk fat globules prevents them from coalescing and forming foam. However, when milk is homogenized, the membrane does not support the lipid globules. Instead, the lipids are pushed through the apical membrane, where they are excreted from the cell through exocytosis.

Effect on oesophageal cancer

Recent studies have suggested a possible link between drinking hot beverages and an increased risk of esophageal cancer. People who drink hot beverages are more likely to develop the condition than those who don’t drink them. While the research has not conclusively shown that coffee or milk cause esophageal cancer, some preliminary findings suggest a possible link between hot liquids and the disease.
