What’s the Difference Between Sugar Counts in Dried Fruits and Non-Dried Fruits?

Compared to fresh fruit, dried fruit has a higher sugar content. However, this does not mean that it is unhealthy. In fact, it is a good source of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. The key is to limit the amount of sugar in your diet. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that sugar is reduced to less than 10% of your daily energy intake.

If you are a diabetic or are on a low-carb diet, you should limit the amount of dried fruit you eat. Although dried fruits contain fiber, they are higher in sugar than fresh fruit. Because of this, it is best to eat them with a source of healthy fat. The added fiber can help keep your blood sugar levels stable. Also, the antioxidants in dried fruit may help lower the risk of certain types of cancer.

Aside from their sugar content, dried fruits are also higher in calories than fresh fruit. A typical serving of fresh fruit has 20 grams of sugar, while dried fruit has more than three times as much. To minimize the sugar in your diet, read the labels and portion out the fruit to fit your diet. You should also be careful to choose dried fruit that has no added sugar or vegetable oils.

Sulfites

Some dried fruits may contain sulfites, a common preservative. Sulfites are considered safe by the FDA, but some people are sensitive to them. These sulfites prevent discoloration and extend the shelf life of the dried fruit.

Some of the most common sulfites symptoms are stomach cramps, skin irritation, and respiratory issues. Sulfites are also used in non-traditional dried fruit. Some of the dried fruit may be infused with fruit juice concentrates or sugar solutions. These are often used to keep the price low.

Losing weight

However, if you are trying to lose weight, you should limit the amount of dried fruit that you eat. This is because dried fruit contains a lot of calories, which makes it difficult to eat as part of a low-calorie diet. The sugars in dried fruit are natural, but they can cause sugar cravings.

Some people choose to add dried fruit to their oatmeal. Others add it to chicken salad or to plain yogurt. You can also add raisins to your favorite salad. Raisins are also rich in iron, potassium, and vitamin A. These vitamins and minerals help protect your body from heart disease and cancer.

However, if you are on a low-carb diet, it is best to eat fresh fruit rather than dried. Fresh fruit has more vitamins and minerals. It also has a low glycemic index. This means that a portion of dried fruit will not spike your blood sugar as quickly as a serving of fresh fruit. This makes dried fruit a great addition to a healthy diet.

Some experts also believe that the natural sugars in dried fruit may help athletes. The sugars in dried fruit are more concentrated than the sugars in fresh fruit. They are also more easily digested, which can help athletes avoid sugar crashes.
